Default Online Music Sales are the Future

Figures released yesterday by The International Federation of Phonographic Industries show recorded music sales worldwide have tumbled. The best selling albums in the first half were Christina Aguilera's Stripped, rapper 50 Cent's Get Rich or Die Tryin' and Coldplay's A Rush of Blood to the Head. Illegal internet downloading, unauthorised file-sharing and commercial piracy are said to have played major factors in the decline. Legal online music sales are growing. There are now more than 300,000 tracks available online and 30 European sites offer pay-per-download or subscription services. Sales from these are expected to increase rapidly.

yeh, I know what you're saying, freebies are always a good thing but what about supporting the artists that make the tunes?

Has the hype in the press recently about labels suing people for illegal music downloads not put u off? Or do u reckon it's all Scaremongering?

    its scaremongering

millions of people make illegal downloads every day - far too many to prosecute!

I cant remember the last time I paid for music!

its hurtin the breakbeat scene - in spain, most of the tunes are available on the net, so the dj's are downloading them and burning them - producers are brewing!

I hope that eventually, live music will be the future. Less watching mimed performances on TOTP, then paying £4 for a single. More free downloads and live events.

Those who deserve to are still succeeding in the music industry. Making the whole music scene less lucrative will help weed out the people who are out to make a quick buck.
