maybe its half half then becuase I had a few emails from promoters saying they think some of the hiphop heads would love up the dubby ukg style for rapping.
and I had a fair lot of emails from hiphop heads saying about garage etc.
that was when i owned uk-garage.co.uk (i still do i just dont do nuffin with it)
well it don't suprise me. garage mc's are not on the level of hip hop mc's and once you americans start hearing garage tracks with MC's on it they are always gonna compare them too hip hop mc's.
yeah but us hiphop will never accept uk garage mc's as hiphop artist..
if sosolid go there and thiink their heavy and $$$$ if they start talking bout real hiphop manz they'll be lucky to not come back dead..
atlist if uk garage had better lyrics besides
"ladys" or "man like me "
being used 20 times in a 30 second chat
maybe than but i dont think that will happen.
True true Fatall and Kobashi - the MCing in garage isn't at the same level as hiphop at all...on one hand, it's not supposed to be, but on the other hand, SoSolid et al. have been trying to make it that way.
Of course, hiphop has had years to develop - I mean...come on...back in the day, it wasn't at the level of conciousness (or thuggery) that it is today...
I'm not sure if I personally would want garage mcing to go that direction tho...
Truth Sen! If you want to hear hip-hop style rhymes, then listen to hip-hop! I prefer 2step because of the beats and the basslines, and the warm keys and the FX ... I really don't prefer the MC style tunes all that much. The tunes with vocals that work for me are more on the R&B or Ragga style. Forget the thug style MC chatter ... that $$$$ is pretty wack, and definitely won't go over well here in the states. However, there are 'nuff of us into UKG for all the other qualities I've mentioned. I wouldn't say there is no hope for garage in the US, unless your concept of Garage is all So Solid.
that forum is wack....and the posts on there lack in intelligence.....especially the one ripping the UK for using the term jungle....they figure because jungle was always a brit thing, that the jungle pioneers must be white guys with their pinky finger extended sipping tea.
talkin bout the early jazz music was labeled jungle music before the dance label was coined.....so what!! the early jazz musicians weren't from the jungle either.....they were in the US. black people descended from africa.....regardless of where they ended up.....slaves were carried all over this earth. american slave decendents are no more african than british slave decendents.
too bad that many hip-hop heads, claiming to be educated are so narrow minded out of their own country that they can't even bother to understand another culture and are quick to judge without knowledge.
feed your friggin head before you start talkin trash.......
man that made me wanna sign up just so i could enlighten.....
but also a question for fatal or any other UK heads......
don't you think garage is also hated in the UK too?
it's not like anyones rushing out to change the national anthem of england to a garage track or anything.....i'm sure there are mad crazy people out there that are totally dissing garage
actually the American's dont, last year we was all in Miami along with Lady Dynamite, Masters of ceremonies and generally all the industry leaders and we smashed it, well good vibe out there and all the industry leaders and labels are going back out there again in March.

I TINK DA AMERICAN'S ONLY FEEL OUR FLAVA OF GARAGE WEN WE BRING IT OVER U KNOW DATS WHAT I'VE BEEN HEARING...I DONT PARTICULARLY LIKE DA US GARAGE FLAVA'S>THEIR HOUSE ORIENTATED BASICALLY
nice to see this thread getting the reload treatment.
current state of UKG in the US.....in my opinion maybe a couple of steps forward.....but not that many.
daniel beddingfield is in heavy rotation on every dance station in the country, and that's about it.
NYC's bringing mad UK talent over and so are a few other cities.
US hip-hop heads still will give no love to a garage MC. neither will I if he/she's trying to pull off hip-hop.
2 examples of my opinions:
1 - that east west promo with Oxide & Neutrino and one of them dropped a freestyle over the fat joe "what's love beats".....
HORRIBLE. awful. good to hear the first time just to hear him chatting freestyle, but that's it.
2. heartless theme, yes it's old, but it's my example. solid tune, crazy energy, does damage on the dancefloor. and the MC'ing is appropriate.
i'm still holding hope for the spread of UKG over here, and doing what i can as are plenty of other North American heads. big em all up.
NOW! THAT'S WHAT I CALL 2-STEP VOL.1
Daniel Bedingfield
Nsync
Distant Soundz
how nightmarish but I can see that happening in the US in some time.
