Insiders close to negotiations for Manchester United in their bid to land Alan Smith from Leeds say the deal has been one of the smoothest they've worked on.
Smith is set to join United in a £6 million transfer and a source close to the talks told the People: "We were keen to get him and the player was keen to come.
"Alan is very passionate about what he sees as a chance to play for a massive club.
"If only every deal was so easy."
A fee has been agreed between the clubs and personal terms "were not a problem", added the source.
As a result of the transfer, Leeds fans are set to withhold Smith's player of the year award in protest.
They did the same two years ago when Rio Ferdinand was transferred from Elland Road to Old Trafford.
