i guess different types of music could stimulate different parts of the brain depending on someone's interpretation. I find it interesting that depending on the structure of the musical piece/style it would evoke a different response. Now if only this could be created now with a valid and reliable research method.

latest research suggests dancing for toddlers is the best way to learn !

i.e movement to music stimilates the brain in key ways for early learning.

Although if you've been to a hard house club in Ibiza you would not of thought that they are the most intelligent creatures on the planet, so do your own research

hahah love the discussion... there was a japanese scientist who did a study by playing music through watter (glass on a speaker sorta thing) and then freezing the water he studdied the crystal structures.... seems heavy metal gave very disjointed crystals in the water whereas classical pieces gave more geometrically perfect ones...

being that we are 70% water might that be the key to the different effects genres can have...

I've worked out something about the effect music has on the brain (or at least the 13-25 y/old female's brain) that I bet that article doesn't say!!!! This is that the verbal slips the said demographic make seem to all relate to songs out at the moment as they are into their current music, i.e when they slip, stumble or hesitate on a word, it seems to always be a word in one of the songs that's out in the charts.

I am not convinced that music as a single direct influence can effect IQ. Obviously it can have effects on mood, concentration/focus etc which can alter short term cognitive effectiveness for better/worse. But as an overall permanent effect on IQ I doubt music would have a direct effect.
