ARGH! will someone ban mark8346,freemp3music and Megan_Jones its just some guy advertising stupid illegal sites that charge you for a standard version of kazaa, he's doing it everywhere!
Anyway, back on topic! I got a call from BT the other day because the BPI had made a complaint about a certain album being uploaded from my computer (im pretty genorous with my upload bandwidth :P), the guy from bt's advice was "Dont worry we all do it, just delete music from you shared folder when its finished downloading and stop torrent tasks as soon as their finished"... he was actually english aswell! props for BT!
I dont think that filesharing is damaging the music industry atall, its the industry thats doing it to itself, who wants to go out and buy a cd for £10 when its most likely going to have a whole load of DRM on it that restricts how you play it? i know that not all record lables do this but the few that do just drag the reputation of legitimatly buying music down. Consumers need fairly priced music, to listen to wherever and however they want, once they start providing a superior product and stop suing their potential customers i will go back to buying music, but as it stands i wont be fueling their legal battles with my money, markets evolve and they have to get used to it.

I reckon smaller bands and unsigned bands can now distribute their songs through the net and that is great. But illegal downloads will not last as technology will put a stop to it. But then, in the old day's you could just tape the charts on the radio to get all the songs to your walkman and people still went out and payed for the songs didn't they?
You can tape video's off the tele but people still buy DVD's and video's don't they?

Most people get in trouble by "Illegal Distribution". I hate to say it(please forgive me) but if you don't share, you don't distribute.
Its stupid them trying to stop it .. a lot of the songs that i know about are from downloading music without buying it first. The publicity artists get out of free mp3 downloads is ridiculous and this encourages more people to a) buy the album b) go and watch the person live in concert. Music should be for everyone to enjoy and trying to limit it to people who can afford to take a chance on an album they've heard two tunes from for £13 is a bit silly. My 2 pennies ..
As a small independent artist if people don't buy my music - I won't have the funds to make an album again. I don't want to be Madonna just be able to carry on.
Sharing with friends is understood - thats always happened. And yes if people like you they'll buy it but in the mass market of the internet it's hard ot be heard - there are so many musicians out there. And you have the labels marketing the hell out of something. It's tough competition.
Nothing else is free. I don't see why music should be - it costs for people to make it.
And I think something like 79p for a single is a good deal when it comes to keeping something for life. I can't think of much else for such little money that continues to give.
I'm a big fan of the music library subscription service like Napster. I subscribe to this and like the fact for 7.99 a month I can listen to what I want but an artist gets a fair deal and as I listen to a lot of independent music I think thats fair

It's a double edged sword isn't it. We want music for free because we're used to getting it that way but we want the artists to survive financially. Well we'd better get used to artists selling their souls through tv ads and corporate sponsorship (not that they weren't already) because that's the only way they're going to be able to afford to keep going, that and increasing ticket prices. The thing that people seem to forget is that recording studios cost a hell of a lot, and to get the kind of quality recordings that consumers demand takes weeks in a studio with very expensive equipment.
I would have some sympathy for the music industry if they weren't so useless. I've tried numerous times to find a download site (apart from itunes) that charges per song and not subscription. (i found 7 digital eventually) but i mean, you dont walk into a music shop and buy a months worth of music do you? So why should the internet be any different

Are you going to buy his album after the free download? Where does the money come from for him to continue so that you will support his new music in the future?
These are the times we are living in. To all you music producers/labels/artists, you might have to look into other ways to make your money and even consider giving your music away for free! Now I did say consider!

as a musician who has sold music, i have no problem with illegal downloading. the industry needs to get out of their traditional framework and figure out how to solve them losing revenue

from 2000-2005 I was an integral aspect of a company I have no wiritten connection too.oseao.
the primary objective is artist promotion.the issue with oseao was the youth of it.They were on the right track yet,didnt know the gift they had. they didnt recognize the gift they were offering,to the dj's and the artist played. it was essentially a pirate ship for years by providing standing sets. though not directly made downloadable Every set by the various deejays was listenable 24/7 365.at first without setlists required. even I didnt want to do the play list becuase I wasnt getting paid to play or any special priveledges for assisting build the company.( I did alot)What was
interesting was the rapid duplication of internet radio during that time internationally. There are sooo many artist I discovered and fell in love with through internet radio. no bulsh*t commercials and blah blah blah.There were many half as*ed dj's as well. includng myself. Been playing since 1998.It was a nursery for the dj culture which is essential to the record industry. I left that scene in '05 a much better deejay then when I began..I had all my sets removed from their available database and seriously questioned the purpose of the current dillemma of the international music industry underground and commercially.

Ive discovered many artists support deejays playing their music in mix tapes and internet radio and of course clubs. Legally in the states atleast theres a clause of "promotion purposes only".
I strongly encourage people to support the underground by going to the shows, buying the product firsthand from the artist/crew.
I strongly encourage all music lovers to become good deejays along with what ever musical skill they express.For that purpose of assisting the other artist. pyramids are built with a broad base.

Does anyone use limewire here? I am having some real probelms with it
I used to agree, but to be hones there's that much rubbish on sites like limewire etc that you don't know what you're getting
