I'm fed up with this $$$$ so i am gonna tell you all the real story from how it really is.
I've had studio equipment since i was a kid coz my dads a guitarist and thats how i learned how to use all the $$$$.
ive known Kin since playschool, his mum is good friends with my mum etc.. etc..
miles on the other hand was introduced to me through kin when we were about 17. At this time kin and miles had never made any tunes before but we all had our own shows on flex fm 103.6 . mine was saturday night 10-12ish, kins was weekday primetime if i remember and miles was 5am sunday morning if i am correct.
anyway, miles and kin brought over the hobsons choice vocal as acapella to my house and we started messing around with it at this stage we were all producing it as a team, i wasnt engineering $$$$ for anyone, except for the fact that kin and miles didnt know how to use any of the equipment, they were just watching and learning.we were just chopping about 25 seconds of the vocal and programming some simple 2 step drums. we had about 50 seconds of the track created in demo foramat when we finished the session and the boys went home..
After that i kept calling miles and kin on their phones to say come back round and finish the tune off coz i knew it had potential and it would have been unfair for me to finish the track without them, but miles had alot of $$$$ on and was telling me that he wasnt feeling the track that much anyway. and kin was just like, nah lets lowe it and move on to somthing else, so i was like "kool". and thats what we did... 6 months later, i was working with redz and jimmy in slammin vinyl studio's doing some in house production and setting up and running a label called klub kuts.... so i was flicking through some of my old akai disks and i came across the hobsons choice vocal... and reds was like"that track is hot man, lets work on that" so thats exactly what we did. we sat down , deleted the old drums that I had programmed with miles and kin, and programmed some new ones but kept the sweeping pad arrangement, we then arranged the track and mixed it down, took about 5 days... Sarah from the dreem teem came down to the studio and was like, thats hot, lemme give them a copy, the next day it was being played on radio... then we had a press booked in for two days and Jimmy was telling me that the one mix wasnt enough for the press, he wanted a darker mix of the record... so at 2am reds and i went back into the studio and bashed out the dark mix with our eyes half open, came out at 6am with the dark mix on DAT TAPE and the track went to press... we then pressed 500 to see how it would do , thats when i told miles and kin about it and they were kool with it... they asked me for copies to play on their radio shows and i gave them both copies of the track........ so anyway a few months later when it really blew up, i heard miles was going around saying that i had ripped him off for it but Kin was kool about it and still to this day has always been cool about me redoing the record, Me and kin are still good friends and still see eachother ... i guess its just one of those things.
The end.
