i have done but Im trying not to anymore considering I done even play out. one of the 3 times I did play out, the"rude bwoys" (who need a trip to Kingston or Compton to see how rude they really are!) were actually asking to go thru my bag to pick out tunes! Then I got the: lemme have a mix - crap.

yes, I bought Pulse X but I didnt buy any of the remixes. Im kinda stuck tho. Not enuff oldskool for oldskool DJ not enuff pulse x from the ends stuff for modern DJ.

Considering Im buying tunes out MY OWN MONEY and not like EZ: buying tunes from money he makes from rave earnings, Im startin to buy tunes that only I like...

I aint even been rec shop in ages.

I tend to buy tunes that I either like when I'm shopping or have heard b4 and thought I like that Im gonna get that.

I wouldn't buy a tune if I didn't like it.
ie Im not really into Todd Edwards (get ready for a cussin) so I wouldn't buy any of his tunes.

i only buy songs that i enjoy, and seem to be against the run of the mill compared to everyone elses styles on hear.

I dont buy MC tunes
Unneeded Bassline fraff
Craig david Style vocal
Come to think of it most ukg stuff these days

I would love to try and influence others but havent got my break, probally coz my style dont suit the scene

if ure playin out 2 a certain extent u need 2 buy the latest 'buzz' tunes 4 the crowds 2 feel ure set these days. if u dont go 2 a set wiv the latest tunes that people will want 2 hear no matter how good ure mixing and set was people will not b as happy as they would if u had all the latest hyped tunes which they go out 2 hear. djs sets are coming more and more tune dominated - djs can just drop all the latest tunes and dubs and get praised hard while a dj mix and blending old skool tunes dont get the credit they deserve, and get put behind the djs such as slimzee, etc!

if ure a bedroom dj then of course only buy the tunes u like - no need 2 have pulse x, todd edwards, etc. just sittin in ure box if u dont like them!

the way i see it, unless your a well famous dj like ez, people will come and see you to hear what they want to hear. its only when you get really respected and stuff that they will come to hear your choice of music.

BUT, then theres the dilemma of trying to save the scene, theres no point complaining about tunes like pulse x killing the scene, then playing them all the time.

if you decide to go with the crowd and play what you know everyone will want to hear, it can be good for you, but not for the scene, whereas if enough people play "proper" garage, it could help the scene, but the you might not get as much recognition as you deserve....

hmmm im not sure if any of that made sense but there u go

na its totally right. im in this dilemma too. it really is a dilemma. why am I buying tunes out my own earnings to please others? There should be a balance somewhere (ie I shud like the tunes too)

BTW - I think Todd is soo overrated. I like 3 of his tunes, the rest sound alike and rubbish and USGy. However, Im one of oldskool most stalkeresque biggest fans.

i do under 18' partys occasionally - and also cheesyer clubs and you know that the people want to hear what they know and like - and to be rated by that audience you have 2 own that type of garage - i try to buy all spectrums of garage as there are many tunes i dont feel until ive put it into a set and heard it amongst other tunes - also the response from my listeners can tilt my opinion - so the answer is yup sometimes i do but i try not 2 make a habit out of it!!!

I never bought for the crowd when I used to Dj, I refuse to mix a cack tune, just cant do it, It's a must that really I like the tracks i'm mixing.

never ever!

I heard pulse x and thought "what a pile of wank" and never thought it would go as big as it did.. not in my wildest imaginations!

I never buy a tune I like, and I play out enough - I just won't buy $$$$, which is why my bank balance is so good cause I dont buy many tunes (hence there's so much cack about nowadays - I only get the good tunes which is 20% of all tunes out etc.)

I also think I play a decent enuff set too, not too dark not to light! Its always balanced out.

I will be honest about things I feel honest about mate!

What do you use to produce your tunes on? Don't you feel a little responsible for some of the $$$$e out there at the moment?

Why is it?

freedom of speech is it not?

For you to write a comment like that is amusing in itself

my tunes are better than his. They have more depth, more elements and more production skill rather than a kick, snare and rinsed bass sample.

I geuss its down to what the raver likes huh

Rassss !!!

Big Up Wire, he obviously watches this forum like Big Brother !!

On Topic though, I do buy (and play) a lot of stuff I don't like.

I'm not into all the cheesy vocal stuff, but I play it - I don't buy it though, I always play anything I get sent purely out of gratitude to people who take the time to send me their stuff.

I'm more into the Dark stuff,
People like Oris Jay, Mark One, Zinc, DJ Trend, El-B etc.

But I also have respect for people like DJ Wire and Musical Mob cos there is a place in our scene for them. My main respect goes to Wire as he is one of the only producers out there who will pay for a decent remix, by a known artist - even if his tune only comes out on a white label - so big up Wire.

to me it looks like jealousy because he is shifting units and getting a fair bit of dj / remix work

funny that

I might not of shifted as many units but it certainly wouldn't be jealousy becuase of that, ive shifted just over 1800 in one pressing (800 on presales) and my 2nd pressing is going out

and i've got a fair bit of remix work from some decent artists

but I dont need to shout my mouth off about it and most of it is under raps

but I assure u, its not jealousy becuase of remix work or units if only you knew what I knew. :d
