TAYLOR FUTURE CONFUSION
There are conflicting reports over the future of Phil Taylor, with several stories on Tuesday claiming The Power is considering bringing the curtain down on his illustrious career.
Taylor lifted his 11th world title at the Circus Tavern on Sunday with a thrilling victory over Kevin Painter.
He then told Sky Sports News on Monday that he was determined to carry on and outlined his goal of adding two more titles to his haul and make it a 'Lucky 13'.
"I want to win another two, I want to make it 13, that is my aim," Taylor told Sky Sports News.
However, he has now hinted that it may be time to give others a chance, as he feels he needs to devote more time to his family.
"I feel like I've reached the pinnacle of my career," he said. "I am not getting any younger, I'm a grandad now. I've won 11 titles and never thought I'd ever do that.
"But it's proving to be a young man's game now. The heat, pressure and the length of matches are really taking it out of me and I need to spend the whole year trying to prepare for this one tournament.
"That's a lot to ask of a dad of four and a grandad year after year - and anyway it wouldn't get any better than this.
"It was physical torture and the greatest night of my life all rolled into one. At times, I didn't think I would win.
"I will miss it, of course I will. Darts has been a massive part of my life and I love it.
"But I have to put my physical well-being and my family before anything else."
Taylor has lorded it over the darting world for over a decade and it remains to be seen if he follows through with his threat to quit, having witness Bob 'The Limestone Cowboy' Anderson reach the last four at the age of 56.
