Two full years before Bowie released Space Oddity, he was a complete unknown. What makes this single so rare is that it is a ‘Demonstration Copy – Not For Sale’ copy.
But it gets even better !!!
This record was once owned by ‘Diddy’ David Hamilton – ex-Radio1 (and Radio 2) DJ. This single predates the launch of Radio 1 by 4 months.
The record’s history is guaranteed - David Hamilton gave it to his nephew & he swapped it with a record of mine when we were at school together in 1973 (the year we saw Bowie at the Free Trade Hall in Manchester on the Ziggy tour).
The record is in mint condition apart from the name ‘Paul’ written on both sides of the disc. It is also in its original Deram sleeve from 1967.
The magazine ‘Record Collector’ valued it at £200 over 10 years ago.
