Default Production competition

People been going on about this for time but it aint happened so (as I am skint and at home bored lol)

I thought I'd try and set the ball rolling -

These are what I think the rules should be -

a time limit of say 2 weeks should be set for everyone to work on there productions - on which all entries should be in.

a sample pack should be given to each contestant and they can use only the samples provided (this is so people with mamouth sound banks and stuff don't have an advantage) - you can manipulate the sounds but not use any of your own. if there are sounds which sound foriegn you must prove that they are from the original pack and how you made them.

All entries are given marks out of 10 by everyone on the forum. The three people with the most points will battle it again in exactly the same way with a different sample pack for 1st 2nd and 3rd place

the winner wins a akai mpc4000 sampler, a korg triton.......... lol jokes I dunno but I'm sure a prize could be sorted.

So what d'yall reckon?

So you want a whole construction kit then? Alrighty...will get one together...oh Lady J...you and i need to chat about this one.

Keep pressing me about this as I'll forget if I'm not reminded...yes, I am that old

says the man with reason and its huge sound bank

the reason the uptown one was dull is coz the sounds were all $$$$ to start

well, we'll see...

The problem with a sample set is that it is really hard to hear every element we give you in the mix...with an acapella, it's easy. So, yeah, that may be the way to go.

If we were to include a sample set, what would you want/need included? A few drums, a few bass samples, a lead sound or two?

Who knows? The staff and I (none of the staff can enter anyway, so no worries) will chat about what we'd like to do in regards to the compo - acapella or not.

Let me break out my bpm counter and my Absynth and see what I can come up with as I go crate digging.

Would like to keep it on the not-yet-UKGized tip...so no Freekin you or anything like that I'll find an appropriate acapella.

i agree with the accapella thing......cause everyone uses different beats for different types of beats

good initiative stylus!

but... my opinion is that if we are only to use a set pair of samples it would all be a sort of who-does-this-in-the-most-clever-way-competition, not really about makin a tune that people are feelin. dunno, but itīs not really about havin a big soundbank, itīs more about being able to use your own unique sounds, i for one have worked on my samples since like 96... yes i am too that old
but great that a competition is on itīs way, i was just new to this forum when the last one ended, so iīm thrilled...

mmm.

okay then just an acapella - I was just trying to make it fairer for people that might not have that many samples.

I would however request that it is a decent acapella for garage coz I know some people have software that you can just enter the bpm and it will match the pella to your tune - not really fair on people like me who have to cut it up to buggery to get it in key

nope - just fruity.

Mind you you can timestretch in goldwave - I've only used it for that really slow kinda effect though. I'm not really bothered coz I'd probably do a dubby mix of whatever it is anyway

I think we're going to remix a classic Garage tune this time (not old school though)...Lady J and I are in discussion mode...we will have the response for you by the end of the week.
