Thanks for keeping on reminding me - getting forgetful in my old age

hehe... we old timers need to be reminded that kids around here get bored very fast.

By the time you and Zed decide to come up with the comp, i'll be armed with a turbocharged dual processor PC-DAW! But then again, them kids got more extra time to work on their choons!

Frankie ... are the major apps multi-threaded now? I know that even up to Cubase VST32 it still wasn't able to make use of a second processor, and I doubt Reason and Fruity do. Sure, you'll get some benefits if you're running Win2k for the system resources ... but just curious to know if there's really that much benefit to the DAW apps for multi-proc systems.

boosted,
I use Steinberg's Nuendo as my main audio sequencer and AFAIK it does have support for dual processor systems. I also have Cubase VST32/5.1 which I only use for midi sequencing and tracking. But most of my edits and audio mixdowns are done within Nuendo. I never used Fruity, I do use Reason but just for quick sequencing when i'm lazy to use all my hardware. I have several VSTi's but never got around to using them fully. I'm still very much a hardware guy in terms of sounds. I used to have a PIII 1Gig built and configured by the guys at Sound Chaser in California (www.soundchaser.com) but my Abit mobo gave way and died (dunno what happened) so I thought I might as well go dual processor since I was getting a new mobo anyway. I was also contemplating of going for Cubase SX at that time but decided not to after I heard the initial reports. I trust the guys at Sound Chaser to tweak my PC to the fullest so it'll give me very minimal problems.
Sen, spec wise... check this link ...
I have exactly the same rackmounted PC as above except for the SCSI hard drives and 1gig of RAM. I have the RME Digi9652 Hammerfall soundcard with the RME AEB8I&O for analog I/O's. Steinberg Midex8 for midi interface and a UAD-1 DSP card.
