Glad you like it mate!

The acoustic guitar was generated by me mucking around with a Korg Karma keyboard. I recorded the performance as midi and played it through a nylon guitar patch in my Yamaha Motif.

The track has vocals... just can't post it up here though coz the remix is commissioned and will be released soon.

Thanks for the positive feedback!!!

Dezz,
The Korg Karma has its pros and cons...
to name a few...

Pros:
1) It has the Triton engine and soundset
2) Expandable with additional boards (like the MOSS board)
3) The Karma function is unique and inspirational (you'll find yourself sitting in front of it for hours just tweaking and marvelling the GE's)
4) You'll be able to make your own GE's with the soon-to-be-released Karma software (require's version 2 OS)
5) Great support from the inventor of the Karma function (Stephen Kay)

Cons:
1) It has the Triton engine and soundset (personally, I find the Triton's soundset heavy on effects to make it sound good. Bypass the effects and you get a very tiny sound)
2) Limited expansion (no sampler expansion and still uses floppy disk for storing programs and combis)
3) The Karma function can get very busy (you gonna find yourself quantizing every sequence coz it drifts off tempo a lot)
4) Synth/key action feels lousy and cheap (nothing compared to a Yamaha Motif)
5) Very unfriendly OS for a first time user

To sum it up, the Karma is a great keyboard with a lot of limitations. I bought it just for the Karma function. there's nothing like it. If Korg ever comes up with a rack version, i'd buy that in a second and get rid of the keyboard. A lot of people are saying that it inspires you to make music, but give it a couple of weeks and you feel uninspired coz you get caught up with the Karma function. I also heard the Karma being described as a "auto-accompaniment keyboard on acid". The Karma function is the saving grace of the Keyboard. Without it, its just another Triton LE without sampling capablity and cheapy feeling synth action keys. Try it out before buying it. If you like it, go for it!

DJ Stylus,
Link's working fine here... try again please, would appreciate any feedback. Thanks!

Frankie, this is Totally the kind of thing I'd buy but what is that slamming door sample?

The guitar is sweeet...nice stabs too - kinda olskool sound - nice and bouncy

So, the Karma function - like and autoarranger/arpeggiator?

I'm eagerly awaiting the vocals.

Get TPs to me and the Toronto/MTL/Ottawa massive will hear it defo.

Sen,

The Karma function is not just an autoarranger/arpeggiator... it's more than that! It could generate a complete song in a matter of minutes. Play a chord and it'll generate phrases which you can change in realtime using the knobs or joystick. You can change a pattern's swing for instance and randomize it on the fly. Like I said though, it can get very busy, the Karma's GE's (generated effects as they call it, you have over 1000 to choose from) generates a lot of midi info and controllers. You'll find yourself capturing your performance in your sequencer and going back to quantize everything to fit. Certain types of GE's are specially written for certain types of styles and patches. There are a number of GE's specifically for guitar picks and strums. I think I used a total of three GE pattern type guitar picks on the mix randomized by doing a lot of chord progressions and knob changes, all in realtime. One with a simple pick GE, a pick with bend GE, and a staccato GE/pattern. Recorded them all in Cubase as midi, quantized it and played it back to a Yamaha Motif guitar patch.

Sounds like Korg should consider releasing that without the Triton engine...as just a software package or just a box of DSP chips

I'll go play with it tomorrow and see what's up...I'm also going to Roland's open house, so I should have a lot of news for the Recording Studio...later.

Hehe, I got the wizard wand sound I like these beats and those chords as well - very chilled. And that guitar as well fits perfectly - but perhaps (if possible) resample it, it sounds slightly lower quality than that chord sound. That organ sound as well is a bit thuddy, go for a more rounded sound a la Long Time Coming or Believe B&F style.

As for the break, nice little string twangs, very nice effect Perhaps use a tighter closed hat just to give it a clinical tight flava. I like that drop, just waiting for the vocals eh? Perhaps lay the bline underneath at this point to roll it thru, but you bring it in 8 bars later anyway.

I'm just nitpicking above tho, these are simply my ideas if it was my track but everyone has different. I like this a lot tho, not often you get a quality track thru here and this is a real ass-shaking anthem. Looking fwd to the vocals, good luck with it bud and don't forget to send it to EZ!

I myself feel the rhodes chords make the track. The only think I miss is a little more bottom - whether the kick drum could be louder or a thicker bassline...I don't know. I know you wouldn't want it to get in the way of everything floating nicely, but maybe it could be more "grounded" at times. Overall, VERY VERY impressive.
