Default DJ AG - Explain Dub

The rant:

Well Im just taking it easy, learnin the basics of producing slowly. Im just doing loops for the meantime.

Right, I totally wanna do some sick mj cole /tuffjam /ytribe /ramsey and fen style oldskool style 4/4 stuff, but I find it easier to learn by making oldskool style 2 step - the reason is that oldskool 2 step doesnt have to be as INTENSE as oldskool 4/4.

A half decent 2 step tune will sound okay. A half decent 4/4 sounds like a mess....or House LOL. e.g. Rhodes riffs have to be bangon /developed in oldskool 4/4, but in 2 step, all you need is one or two chords/licks here and there and it will sound okay. U get me? 2 step dont need to be so intense and "there".

So Im practising with 2 step for now, til I get good enough to do 4/4 (seems odd way round but my reasoning is good).

The loop:

Heres a lil oldskool 2 step loop Ive done. Aint finished or developed or nuttin. Just over a min of loop really.

[mp3]: http://artists.iuma.com/site-bin/mp..._explaindub.mp3

yall know Im on an oldskool-only tip right?
And you should all know the vox I jacked

definitely in the vein ur lookin. the organ riff sounds a little hollow but its a nice loop. not sure about the vox doesnt sound quite beat matched, laggin behind a lil. when the vocals drop out it sounds all good part from that synthy string sound which is really gratin on me. beats nice

yea i like this, nice and chilled. the vocals seem a bit out of tune with the rhodes at times tho. apart from that, its decent!

The rhodes are way too wide in the stereo field compared to everything else. Sort that out and your back on the ball.

OH MY WORD!

Mate, do NOT give up producing.

I tell no word of a lie - There is some SERIOUS potential right there. Like Fastlance said, loose the snare and get a fatter one in there. The chords that come in half way through are wrong and I don't think the acapella really fits, but those beats, that bassline and that first melody are signs of something special.

You could be the next Steve Gurley if you carry on that vibe and just keep working at it. Serious - It's got a way to go but that's sounding like it could turn out RUFF!

Yeah that clarinety thing at the end, I dunno what i was thinking. I jus wanted to add suttin from the Strings section of Reason (I use Reason rewired with Logic) really, u know, try suttin....

thanks tho

nice but the vocals kills it

tip for ya use something like acid to match the tempo of ya track and then change the route key to match the route key of ya chords

if the vocal sounds really bad in key (unatural) then at least the track tempo is the same so you can choose another key to make it sound more natural

Keep up the good work AG. Big up for not drinking Red Stripe aswell.

Its good that your not making 4/4 like everyone else out there tryna make a difference. You know the early 2step tunes are dutty. Looking forward man, experimenting. Big it.

beats good just turn down the middle snare bit sounds a bit louder than the rest of the beat?

ok so you say your learning, but for someone who is learning this hits the vibe your looking for spot on, the vocals are little bit out, the chords are slightly out of tune in places, but really if you done a bit of work it would be spot on.... sounds like there's a few syncopated rhythms in there

big up mate, sounds aiight still!

No one is ass licking this tune, it is Heavy. The Quality is very good, and so is the vibe it creates. This is a 2 Step rude awakening.

AG, im trying to make old sounding 2-Step and 4x4 tunes as well. Like you i aint bein doing it that long, teaching my self as i go along. When ive finished summink i'll post it up. I'm just experimenting at the mo.

I like what youve done here. youve captured the old vibe quite well with the rhodes etc.

The vibe back then was so different. People went raving for the love of the music!!!

Oh and i found quite a good sample CD for Old skool Garage
