Default Audio Anarchy - Episode 26 - 'Gut Check' [Dubstep/Breakbeat/Drum&Bass]

Audio Anarchy - Episode #26

Dubstep. Breakbeat. Drum&Bass.

It's interesting to me that three genres that share the same philo-
sophical foundation of defying the thumping 4x4 template can end
up sounding so completely different. Part of it is tempo. Part of it
is how each respective scene has evolved. Part of it is the skills
and techniques of the producers themselves.

This set melds these three disparate genres into one unified dance-
floor experience.

As always, I'd love to hear what you think about it...
Cheers!

Notes/Comments:
1. Burial "Wounder"
Spacey, dubstep. I half-expect to hear an astronaught radioing in.

2. Skream! "Chest Boxing"
Sick, sick bass. I love the dark vibe.

3. Distance "Ska"
A masterpiece in bass. One of my favorite producers at the moment.

4. iTal tEK "Blood Line"
Heavy dubstep, almost breakstep. Sounds like impending doom.

5. D1 "Foundation"
Melodic, almost gothic dubstep.

6. Milanese "Sight Beyond Sight"
Breakstep? Dubcore? Off-beat madness. Milanese is brilliant.

7. Dan F "The 2012 Revival"
DJ Taj (Spundae, SF) handed me this record. Nu-skool breaks done proper.

8. Claude Von Stroke "Who's Afraid of Detroit?" (Stanton Warriors Remix)
The Warriors are in top form here, remixing the currently blowing up San Franciscan.

9. Kovacs "Lowlife" (Kickflip RMX)
Super clean production on this nu-skool breakbeat make it sound like housey Uberzone.

10. Ben & Lex - My Pink Sock (DJ Quest's Glitchtastic Remix)
For those who like their breakbeat to taste like drum 'n bass. Yum.

11. Takomo "Cold Sweat"
Dubby electro with an old-school, sampled breakbeat vibe. 1997 meets 2007.

12. Pendulum "Blook Sugar"
Oddly, to my ears this record sounds better played at 33rpm than at 45rpm. Wrong speed dnb.

13. Silent Witness & Ercola "Pick Up"
Minimal, spacey, slightly dark, slightly techy, slightly heavy drum 'n bass.

14. State of Mind "Sunking" (Chris SU Remix)
Uplifting drum 'n bass with a tribal vibe and feel.

15. Kryptic Minds & Leon Switch "Turmoil"
Techy dnb with trippy piano and haunting string work.

16. Klute "Flight 720"
Etostone's "Little Ladies" meets Bassbin Twin's remix of Electroliners "Loose Caboose" meets dnb.

17. Phace "Krunk Time"
Hard, growling, minimalist neurofunk. Class.

18. Motive "Freeze Frame"
Just a snippet of this electrol-tinged, stutter edited, peak-time growler.

19. Black Sun Empire "Unfamiliar"
Uncompromisingly grimey, tech-influenced dnb. A lesson in modern dance music production, plain and simple.
