Default A Garage tune in question

Hi. I'm DJ Entropy. I've been playing spinning for about 6 years and producing for about 3 years, and I picked up UKG in the end of 1999. I play Hardcore, Old Skool, and Jungle/DNB as well. I also threw some of the first UKG events in New England, and was one of the first (along with G Notorious and Innana) to play UKG out in New England, at Raves and Clubs.

Anyway.....I'm here to take over a discussion from the 2-Step list to here, as my dear friend Lady J said I should.

I made a tune which I consider to be a Garage tune. I come from a Hardcore and Jungle background, and I love Garage for it's ability to break lots of rules that usually hold other genres down. When "My Red Car" came out by Squarepusher, I fell in love with idea of a Hardcore influence in a Garage track...even MORE so than a lot of the stuff on Rat Records or various whites that float about.

So I produced a tune in the vein of a Garage tune with Hardcore influences......

However, Lady J refuses to accept it as Garage, even though it has shuffle, swing, vocal science, melody, an obvious two-step drum pattern...as well as a few other things you don't hear in too much in more "run-of-the-mill" Garage tunes....

So give me your comments ,for me and J to hear.....I am not gonna change my mind as to what I made, as I will always feel it is Garage, but I am curious to hear what others have to say....(btw, someone sent this tune to Rat Records for me....)

Here ya go:

It's certainly got an old skool vibe, i wouldnt really call it garage. It's kinda bordering garage, in a way like a lot of the So Solid/ Oxide & Neutrino stuff- it aint ya run of the mill stuff.

I think u should produce some nu-skool stuff rather than trying to get the old skool style to fit into garage. I think on that tune the beat aint quite right for a garage tune, i cant describe it (im not a producer myself, dont know the lingo) but it sounds a bit odd.

Well, that's my humble opinion, let's see what everyone else says. Maybe if u added a more soulful jazzy sound to it it might sound more garage-y? Dunno lol
