More than two years since Blazin’ Squad released their last hit single ‘Here 4 One’, the boys are back with their fresh new summer smash ‘All Night Long’ a perfect song for the long hot summer nights and partying until the sun comes up.
Back in the studio Plat’num, Reepa, Spike-e and Melo-D have been working with Si Hulbert (Jungle Bros, Rosie Gaines, Professor Green, Friday Hill & Studio B) and ‘Flip Reverse’ producers Snowflakers (Friday Hill, Lemar, Jamelia, Keisha White, HQ & Hi Life) and the first taster of the new album is ‘All Night Long’.
UKMusic.com speaks with Plat’num (formerly known as Rocky B).
Does it seem lonely with just the four of you?
It’s definitely different, but we’re all doing our own thing and have been really busy so we haven’t really noticed much. All of us are getting a chance to shine a bit more now.
What have you been doing since your last release?
I’ve been on The Games and we’ve been recording our debut album together. It’s a bit more mature than the stuff we used to do and has more singing.
Why did you choose All Night Long as your comeback single?
It was the first song we recorded and people at the label loved it so we thought it would be a good idea to release it.
Was it your choice to do the pop sound?
The only way you’re gonna make money from the music thing is if you’re on a commercial vibe. Some people don’t wanna make commercial music but they don’t make much money from it. We thought it would be the best move.
Who do you like to listen to in your spare time?
The last album I bought was Busta Rhymes’ new album “The Big Bang.” I’m a hip hop head and I like a bit of grime too.
What has the feedback been like so far on your new material?
We set up a Myspace and have had over 20,000 hits already and only had it for about a month. Everyone says they love All Night Long which is good news. We’re still getting the same amount of love that we were getting back in the day, especially at road shows and events like that.
Do you think you’ll have lost the fans you had from before?
I don’t think so because they’ve matured along with us, we haven’t really alienated them with this new material, it’s a step up from before. We’re still doing grimey things and hip hop/RnB, we’ve just grown vocally.
Who would you like to work with if you had the chance?
Producer wise, Gemini, he’s making those grimey kind of beats. (He consults with the rest of the group) Vocal wise, Keisha White. I like her vocals a lot she’s great. There are also some new girls coming out called Triniti Soul who we would definitely work with.
What are Blazin’ Squad up to for the rest of the year?
We are gonna release the single and get the second single ready and finishing the album properly. The video for All Night Long will be recorded in about a week’s time and put on all the TV channels. We’re just gonna be working our arses off mate!
