Soulful Musical Era With Kayne Rose |

Aspiring from the UK R&B genre is one of the most talented singers raising his musical profile. Kayne Rose began to pursue his ambitions back in 1992, the year of following ‘Kriss Kross’ fashion, “I was useless at rapping but my family discovered that I had a flare for singing”, which doesn’t come to a surprise as musical genes run through the family. Kayne is the nephew of the artist who blessed us with the club classic, ‘Don’t Give Me Your Love’, “I didn’t start to actively pursue music until I was older, when I started various different vocal training classes, ranging from rock, to opera, to R&B”. Describing his music as ‘modern UK R&B’ Kayne Rose has developed his craft with the help of song writing inspirations from personal experiences, “I keep a daily diary so that always serves as a reminder”. Musical perfection also includes vocal tuition as well as being inspired from the likes of Beyonce, Lauren Hill and Brandy, but Kayne will always commit to finding a sound of his own and avoids mimicking establishments surrounding him.
Whilst perfecting his musical abilities, Kayne has a 1st year’s honours degree and has been able to professionally balance his education and music ambitions. Promotional tactics include numerous live performances in aim to build his fan base and represent his talent to industry bodies in preparation of forthcoming projects, “My first performance of original material was about two years ago; obviously I had performed before in theatre and singing covers but not original stuff. This was at a talent show called ‘star academy’ there was a HUGE audience!! And surprisingly the response was dreadful! [laughs] I cringe to think about it! I was in a group back then and sang a seasonal song in summertime at a dance show! They couldn’t wait for us to get off stage!! It was such a learning curve!! I wouldn’t do it again mind you!” Fortunate for Kayne, his passion in music gave him the confidence to pursue his goals, “I’ve developed so much, obviously I’m no longer in a group so my vocals had to become stronger, and I took performance classes and dance, to incorporate other elements instead of just being a vocalist.
As I continued to perform up and down the country I became more relaxed and more experienced”. Since his first cringe worthy performance, Kayne Rose has performed at the likes of Ministry Of Sound, Sin City, Ravefest, CC Club, UK Unsigned and the Roar showcase to name a few. At present Kayne is working on his debut album and has been pre promoting with singles ‘Why’ and ‘Merry Go Round’ which have been rotated heavily on BBC’s 1Xtra and Galaxy Radio, “‘Why’ was vocal produced by Soundbwoy, and produced by ‘Young Mozart’ his protégé producer. Working with Soundbwoy is explosive! He is very talented and we have an excellent working chemistry because moreover we are friends rather than clients. I’m currently finalising the details of my very first music video due for filming in January 2008, from there I’m aiming for all the major music channels”.
Being an astounding aptitude rising through the UK scene it isn’t an easy process, but Kayne Rose’s determination and passion has helped him overcome growing obstacles, “I would say my hardest musical obstacle thus far has been in 2006 when I split from my group and management, I didn’t believe in my talent enough to be solo, I was out of my comfort zone and was in limbo for couple of months trying to find myself! I had to make some really important decisions. I did and here I am now” Even the lack of support within his market doesn’t seem to faze him, “I’ve had major league support from some of the DJ’s and at the same time I’ve been shown no support from a couple DJ’s. The ones who support you can tell DJ’ing and music is there passion, whereas the ones who don’t it’s simply a job to them. Also, I don’t think ‘we’ as independent artists show enough support for each other. Competition is healthy however unity is a must in any situation, no one man is an island and independent artists aren’t going to succeed without a team of likeminded, strong, ambitious, dedicated people. We definitely have to start supporting our own”.
The UK R&B market is probably one of the most competitive music genres because you don’t have much choice but to compromise a commercial approach, but again Kayne’s modesty has set his fate for longevity, “I’m quite lucky, Im a versatile musician, I listen to pop as well as other genres, currently Leona Lewis and Sugababes are on heavy rotation in my CD player, so I don’t have to compromise with my music, although my music isn’t solely pop, I would say it’s more of a fusion of a number of genres, but the popular genre does definitely come into my music for example when writing hooks. I think I’m incomparable in because I don’t listen to other male vocalist so that they don’t influence my sound, that’s a conscious decision I have been following for a number of years now. As a result I would say my voice has a unique UK sound to it rather than an Americanised sound”.
To date Kayne’s biggest achievement has been features on 1xtra’s homegrown show, an interview on Ronnie Herel’s R&B show and participating in Soundbwoy Entertainment’s UKtour. Whilst Kanye Rose continues his compelling venture, he ended this interview with an intriguing thought, “‘Without commitment you wont start, without consistency you wont finish’ that’s my life motto, I’ve come too far with music to stop now! It’s literally my life”
