Scratcha DVA and Bear Face Riddim
At the age of 16, he had left school and started renting recording studios to compose his first track. Now, at the age of 24, Scratcha DVA (Diverse Artz) is still recovering from the success of his current track the Bear Face riddim which attracted the likes of Lady Fury, Stormin, Royal and Mz Bratt. Influenced by the sounds of Jungle, Raggae rock and Drum and Base, the 24 year-old producer has worked with many up and coming artists including Terror Danjah, Lady Destiny, Louie-Lou and Royal. His ability to produce such spectacular rhythms has made him the centre of attention and with a constant demand for his freshest beats; his work is becoming insanely popular.
What have you been up to lately?
I’ve been in the studio working hard on my next release ‘The Voice of Grime Vol 1’ complication CD. Its host to all the top UK singers including El Rae, Sadie, Gemma Fox, Ny, and Louie-Lou. Half the complication is produced by myself with the other tracks coming from Davinche, Terror Danjah and DJ Spyro.
I’ve heard your about to release a new track ft Tinie Tempah and Lady Destiny. Care to tell us about it?
Yeah! The track also features on The Voice of Grime Vol 1 album. It’s a track I did with a vocalist called Amy King which I later remixed and featured the two artists on. Tinie came down no problem and ate the mic. Sounds big!
Is it true you used to be part of Aftershock?
Yeah! Me, Terror Danjah and Triple Threat used to sit up and make tunes on Play DSTN but soon lost contact with them. Then, shortly after Aftershock was formed, Terror brought me in. I done a lot of work with them but never had a release on the label which made me start to realise, it really wasn’t working for me so I moved away and started doing my own thing and working with whoever I wanted to. Aftershock I think are ignorant to up and coming talent from the streets, therefore I gave the Bear Face Riddim to anyone who had the intention of recording from it. I had soon realised it worked for me and now people are chatting about my work and my beats are coming off the net!
Who have you enjoyed working with most?
Louie-Lou, because we have an understanding of the type of sounds we want and also Royal. The geezer is a nut bag. Honestly! I think he fancies me.
What has been your greatest achievement so far?
Being able to work with Shaznay Lewis for the remix I did with Terror Danjah and Guitarist Kad that was on the official release which was good. I also loved working alongside Shola Ama in the studio. She’s a vocal god!
What advice would you give to any other musicians/MC’s/Producers and songwriters who are trying to make it big?
Don’t limit your goals and always aim high! “Das it! Straight up and down like half-six”.
Anyone you would like to big up?
Yeah! Big up Hyper Frank, Aftershock and all the people who have shown support overtime! And also, a special thanks to all the people who were involved in the birth of the Bear Face Riddim. They made it big for me!
