Since headlining herself when getting signed and performing at the Urban Music Awards in 06’, Lauren Tilly is on her way of releasing her brand spanking new album ‘Desire’. Before she launches her career officially and setting off for her London tour, UKMusic.com catches up with the Scottish lass to discuss breakfast, life and UCAS applications.
Hello Lauren, how are you today?
I’m fine thanks and yourself?
Not bad thank you. What did you have for breakfast today?
I haven’t had anything just as yet. I’m thinking of maybe two slices of toast and a cup of tea.
Couldn’t make me one with two sugars? Anyways, what are you working on at the moment?
[She laughs] Well I am currently putting together a tour around the UK but mostly around England. I’m organising a mini tour around London and am thinking of going to places such as Birmingham and Liverpool. We have some dates planned and are going to play quite a few gigs. I’m also rehearsing quite and lot and trying to keep fit so I can give good performances on the tour.
Could you tell us about the new album?
It’s called Desire and it has loads of different and interesting tracks including club and soul. It mostly has a feel of RnB mixed with a bit of pop feel to it. I am trying to appeal to a younger audience with this CD and want them to get this cool feeling when they hear my music. Overall, I enjoyed putting all the songs together and had a load of laughs in the studio.
You were meant to be performing with Deacon Blue but it got cut short due to a cancellation or something like that. What happened?
Yes! It was meant to be at Sterling Castle and Deacon Blue were headlining it but it got cancelled because of the traditional Scottish weather. It was a shame because I was really looking forward to performing.
What has been your proudest moment to date?
I got two. When I performed at the Urban Music Awards and when I got signed to F2G.
I have just been offered a place at St. Andrews University. Should I leave London for Scotland and if so, why?
Definitely go to St. Andrews! The experience is gonna be great and I’m pretty sure you will meet very nice people there. The university itself is very beautiful and the nightlife is amazing if you into that sort of thing. Plus, Prince William went there so you should really give it a good thought. I think you will enjoy Scotland.
What’s the best thing about being Scottish?
I’m proud to be Scottish. The country is beautiful and it has loads of hills and nice scenery to look at. The people are also great. Everyone speaks with each other and look out for one and other. It’s a good country to grow up in.
If you could put laxatives in someone’s tea, who’s would it be and why?
My maths teacher from my old school! I always wanted to be a performer, even when I was young, so I used to kinda be the class clown and make jokes all the time. I was also getting into a lot of trouble and talk loud and the Maths teacher would hate me for it. To be honest, it was kinda my fault that he would shout at me but it would be funny watching him run to the loo!
Would you consider yourself to be an angel, devil or a bit of both?
[Shocked expression] Why wasn’t I wasn’t invited?
I don’t know about that but I will smuggle you into my suitcase if you’d like?
A bit of both! Definitely not an angel. I like having fun and being naughty. No law breaking or nothing like that, just minor things. For example, we used to put chewing gum in the drama teacher’s coffee and watch her sip it down. It was quite hilarious but when you look back at it now, you can kinda see the point of why she started shouting.
What’s next for Lauren Tilly?
Just waiting for the album to come out and getting ready for the tour. I can’t wait to get out there! I am also going to the UMA’s in the States. I can’t wait for that also!
I’ll take it!
Bye! And I hope you go to St. Andrews!
Desire is available to download on iTunes.
