 DJ Ironik is probably one of the
biggest DJ’s on road. He started DJ’ing at 12, supported London’s So Solid crew at 14 and at 18, he
has worked with artists such as Crazy Titch, Bruza, Shizzle, Napper, Yazmin and
Chipmunk. The talented DJ tore down the walls in Ministry with his recent
performance at Jay Z’s after party. Most people criticise the artist’s success
that he has only gotten where he is because his uncle owns the Twice as Nice
organization, the events management company that has organised many a party for Beyonce, Rihana amongst others. “I got where I am today independently, without anyone’s help,” insists Ironik. It was the creative teen who discovered our young Yazmin who has
gone on to recording a storable amount of tracks with Ironik.
UK Music caught up with Ironik before he is about to set off for his UK tour. With
complimentary sounds such as ‘Beyond the sky’ reaching us, I was lucky enough
to be pass by him at the Jay Z after party. Now isn’t that Ironik?
What
made you want to start DJ’ing?
I’ve
always been into the music scene from when I was younger and my mum was rinsing
them old school tunes. Also my family has been in the music scene for years so
I guess that kind of made me want to go with the flow. But now, I’ve just got a
total love for music!
You
have achieved much throughout your career. A specific highlight is your tour
with So Solid Crew at the age of 14, what has else do youi think has been your best bit?
I’ve
got a few such as going on tour abroad in Spain
and Amsterdam.
Also releasing over 35,000 CDs in Ibiza with Mc Bruza and releasing a CD with a
magazine in the UK!
Lots of stuff man, I’m happy with the whole situation right now
Where
would be your dream rave or radio station to perform?
I
want to get onto a Legal radio station such as Choice Fm or BBC Radio 1 so
people can request to get DJ IRONIK on air. I used to go Alexandra
Palace in North
London (skating rink) and have always dreamt of hosting a
rave/concert there. Soon come though, so watch this space!
Which
MCs/Producers do you have high hopes for and why?
Emcee’s
Tinie Tempah and Shizzle! These two emcees are very talented and I can
definitely see them going very far. They have the minds of an artist and
definitely know how to network. I wish them both the best of luck!
Also
Davinche. Just like the emcees, he has the mind of an artist and is a very good
producer
Do
you seriously charge £300 an hour?
(laughs) It all depends on the situation.
Let’s
talk about the video. What track is it for, what’s the setting and most
importantly, when is it out?
Well
I can’t say much about my first video (I don’t want give it away as it’s a
surprise), but it should be out by the end of this year hopefully. I also have
a few other videos coming out that I produced the tracks to (Royal ft Yazmin -
Players and Ryder, Fresh & S Kid - Eat Dis Man). My second video is going
to be ‘So Amazing’. That’s enough information though.
What
are we to expect from Ironik in the future?
More
hits, music videos and releases. I’m going to be on your screens very soon. I’m
also launching my very own label (Venomous Records) very soon.
