Influenced by the early works of Missy Elliott, Busta Rymes, Kanye West and Dizzie Rascal, East London’s finest female MC, Lady Fury, shot to fame thanks to the success of her murk dem riddim. Starting at the age of 16, the female has recorded many successful tunes and is keen to leave her mark on the music industry. She has launched her fury upon many of the UK’s up and coming MC’s and has gone back to back with the likes of Demon, Dizzie Rascal, Wiley, JME and Doctor. Now at the age of 19, she has secured herself a job as a youth worker, giving up her free time to influence the next generation of the UK’s up and coming MC talents. Including her recent performance in Germany which sent the crowd roaring, the lady of fury has been working hard to promote her music and releasing her words of war talk and the street life in her new, soon to be released tracks. Her music is original, sending shockwaves through the crowds, igniting the fury within and is marking her essence in all the underground clubs. After her recent dispute with Shystie, she’s been keeping her head low, going to the studio whenever she can and starting work on her next tape. But now she’s back to take the music world by storm and with a hell of a lot of fury to unleash I wouldn’t want to be the one to stand in her way! Whilst recording, I was able to catch up with the young female and here’s what she had to say…
What have you been up to lately?
Well I’ve just bought my first house and am currently settled in youth work. I have been reaching the studio whenever I can (even whilst others sleep) working on my new up and coming tracks including back in the dayz and slow down both featuring Amy King, Nang and beginning of da end. I don’t want to let the cat out of the bag at the moment so that’s all you’re getting!
I hear you got your name due to your fiery temper, how would you comment on this?
I got my name for not standing for bulls**t! In other words, I will always be the one questioning and will not stand for anything from no one!
Would you ever consider exchanging your music career to a career in acting?
Nah! But I would love to get into acting. Why not?
Who have you enjoyed working with most?
There’s been so many I couldn’t name them all. But I’m feeling Doctor, Shizzle, Fumin, Scorcher and JME who is also great and a very nice guy. Also, Plasticman is a big joker! I’ve been abroad with him a couple times and has had me in stitches.
What has been your greatest achievement so far?
Appearing on The Westwood Complication CD, going abroad without even the release of a video and having people screaming my name.
I heard about your recent weight loss. What advice would you give to others who are also trying to lose weight?
Don’t let others get you down! Set small goals for yourself which you know you can achieve without overdoing it. A small amount of exercise everyday is the perfect remedy.
Did you loose weight in order to change your physical appearance for your music?
Nah! Loosing weight was for personal reasons. I want to sell units not my figure! I couldn’t care less what people think of my weight. I am who I am and if you let ignorance get in the way of getting to know a person, you’re a fool.
It must have been heartbreaking for your family, especially for your mother, to turn on the radio and to find that your address was being distributed. How has your family reacted and has it made you stronger?
I wouldn’t say heartbreaking and I wasn’t too bothered as it was an old address. It was a cheap shot which nobody even cared about! I never hid my address until that day. I’m a clean person, nobody would want to harm me.
What are your views on the music industry being associated with violence?
I feel the government try to use people in the music industry as excuses and will pass blame wherever they feel they can. The government are the biggest gangsters on the planet.
Would you consider that your beef with Shystie and the constant war talk on your tracks is enough to influence others to turn to violence?
Not at all. Violence has been around before garage and as I have grown older, I’ve changed my direction of music slightly.
What advice would you give to your fellow MC’s out there who are also trying to make it big?
To make it big you need to be persistent, patient, constantly motivated and must always set goals for yourself. All these points will contribute to each other and to your success.
Any regrets?
Music has been a powerful journey for me. I have grown as a person, seen the world being made and have lost friends along the way. I wouldn’t change a thing however, I believe the best bits are to come along with the future and better tunes from myself.
Anyone you would like to big up?
Yeah! Big up Scratcha DVA and look out for the new complication CD, the Voice of Grime Vol 1. Big up the whole sense of everyone making something out of nothing and to all my youths. Keep grinding and stay positive.
