So how did Verb T and Harry Love come together?
Verb T: The same way 2 stray dogs meet each other and decide because they don't have any other friends that they should hang out with each other. Or in other words, we were neighbours from the age of 11 and met and became friends through mutual intersests including music.
Harry Love: Thats right
You’ve worked with some phenomenal artists over the years, but which collaboration was your favourite?
Verb T: well for me I would say Mc wise Kashmere because we didn't know each other before working together but it seemed like we just had the samje way of looking at things just with different styles that i think complemented each other, production wise it's harry, we enjoyed making this album despite the long hours.
Harry Love: Twang, Klash, Kyza, Ramson, Escapade (coming soon!), Jehst, Karizma, Junior Reid, Hill St Soul. I enjoyed collaborating with all the different people.
What does the title of your debut album, Bring It Back To Basics mean?
Verb T: We want people to kind of take what they want from it, but our thoughts behind it are that you need to learn the basic rules before you can progress, don't lose sight of foundations, and repect people that paved the way for us as artists.
Harry Love: Well the full title is Verb T and Harry Love Bring It Back To Basics.
It's just telling you what we did. When it came down to a lot of situations we decided to abandon complication and stick to simplicity.
What’s your favourite track on the album and why?
Verb T: It depends what mood i'm in, i would say Chaos because i think we got the mood of it right for what we wanted to say with help of the vocals from rosie which rounded it off perfectly. I also really like the track "whats behind your eyes" with yungun, it's just one of those tracks i can listen to over and over.
Harry Love: It changes everytime i hear the album.
The lyrics are cutting edge and speak of current events, current attitudes and yet hold onto a sense of timelessness… was this intentional?
Verb T: I'm happy it came out like that, i basicly spoke on what was on my mind, when it came to writng the choruses i did make a conscious effort to put forward a clear statement or feeling but with the verses i just wrote from my sub-conscious really.
What was recording the album like for you?
Verb T: This album was made over the course of a few years so we went through times of hapiness, dispare, anger, madness and every other emotion but when we listen back to the finished product it's all worth it and it makes you just wanna start the next one.
Harry Love: A big learning experience and a lot of fun. I feel very natural recording.
What is the best and the worst thing about being Verb T and Harry Love?
Hsrry Love : Errrrrrrrm... best thing is being given the opportunities to travel and the worst is trying to maintain a healthy diet on tour. Probably not really the worst thing but its an abstract question
Verb T: The best thing is the people you meet. The worst thing is the people you meet
Do you have any advice you could offer artists who are trying to make it in the music industry?
Verb T: You have to have self belief, you have to be able to accept and understand any criticism you recieve, you have to be prepared to wait for your right oppurtunities, you have to work hard not only on the music but also on the promotion and getting your name in peoples ears, and very importantly surround yourself with the people that will actually help you get things done rather than people who just like the idea of being down but really just waste a lot of your time.
Harry Love: Yea, don't listen to anyone else. Just learn to hear the voice in your head and trust it, even if its not in accordance with what everyone around , it's your guide for your mission.
Is home-grown best?
Verb T: vegetable-wise yeah because it is satisfying to grow your own stuff. Music wise it can be but not always, we just need to create the right environment and give the right support to our vegetables, i mean artists, in order to help the patch, i mean scene, grow. yeah.
Harry Love: i'm stumped how can i answer that?
