Monday January 17th saw the most extraordinary day ever in radio. Every commercial station in the UK broadcasted UK Radio Aid - a day of very special guests, presenters and activity to raise money for the tsunami appeal.
UK Radio Aid broadcast a whole day of special programmes on local radio stations on Monday 17th January. Guest presenters were joined by various music celebrities in a fundraiser which has already raised over £3,000,000 for the Tsunami appeal.
The campaign continues with a number of ways of donating at: www.ukradioaid.com including live set downloads from the likes of Jamelia, Athlete and Lemar, a tool which converts your yearly salary (or pocket money) into an hourly figure which you can donate and telephone/text numbers. Various Ebay auctions are also ongoing and can be viewed at: http://pages.ebay.co.uk/ukradioaid/
Money from all of these projects goes to the Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC) - the umbrella organisation responsible for co-ordinating the UK's national appeal in response to major overseas disasters. The DEC assists a large network of aid agencies, ensuring that the funds raised from the appeal will go to those who need them most.
Do your bit. It’s not too late.
