Up-and-coming South London acts 'New Identity' and 'N Double A' played alongside Ms Dynamite at an exclusive Cafe de Paris gig in London's Leicester Square on February 25th 2004.
New Identity (aka Jay, Mikee and Tayla) and N Double A (aka Narstie and Damien) fought off thousands of hopefuls to come joint second in Pepsi's nationwide Urban Sounds campaign. They impressed a panel of industry experts including Polydor's A&R chief, Simon Gavin, Choice FM's DJ 279 and Ms Dynamite herself at a series of London auditions.
Judges selected New Identity for their 'unique style' and their fellow runner-up - Brixton rap duo N Double A for their 'real lyrics' and 'rhythm'. Both acts are tipped for big things in the near future.
However nobody impressed judges more than overall competition winner, Emily Henshaw from Leeds. Appearing on stage, she wooed the crowd with her powerful and soulful vocals singing 2 tracks that she had written herself. The first song she performed was inspired by and written for her friend, while the second track 'Sisters' was for her two sisters.
As Emily nervously left the stage, Simon Gavin announced that Polydor would be offering her a devlopment deal as they were so impressed with her sound.
Ms Dynamite performed a total of 9 tracks to an adoring crowd - almost. In the middle of her performance she stopped dead in her tracks, turned to a disruptive crowd member and said:
"Excuse me, excuse me, if you don't wanna listen, you can get out. You don't have to stay. No, I'm not being rude, but you don't have to be here." Turning to the rest of her fans, she said "Now for the people that do wanna listen..." and continued what she had started - singing 'a little bit deeper'.
