House Music Awards 2005 Print E-mail
Wednesday, 07 December 2005

Facebook!
Following the success of the first ever House Music Awards last year at Neighbourhood London, this year it was onwards and upwards with a move to the Hammersmith Palais, a venue 3 times the size. As a testament to the events popularity though, the venue was packed with enthusiastic dance fans, alongside all the industry’s movers and shakers schmoozing in the upstairs VIP balcony area.
The show kicked off with a great PA from Alexandra Prince singing Gadjo’s So Many Times. The crowd were eating out of the palm of her hand immediately, which set the tone for the rest of the night; the atmosphere was rocking.

Hosts for the night were the Cuban Brothers who certainly made an entrance with their dance routine!

PA’s of all this year’s hottest tracks interspersed all the winners announcements. Barbara Tucker stole the show with this years single of the year ‘Most Precious Love’ and Bodyrockers smashed it with ‘I Like The Way You Move’- proving their abilities as a live band and adding a bit of rock & roll glamour to the night. One for the boys was the PA of Axwell’s ‘Feel The Vibe’ with dancers wearing skimpy outfits with a lot of bum cheeks on show! Not to be outdone, on came Superfly vs Fishbowl with a lively performance of one of the summer’s anthems ‘Let’s Get Down’. Brandishing a bottle of champagne, he poured it down the throats of some lively fans as he sang, which had em’ all clambering to the front!

It was good to see some of the house music legends in the house including Frankie Knuckles & Robert Owens who told me he had popped into last years event but this year wanted to be part of it and joined Barbara Tucker on stage for some adlib vocals, as well as presenting an award.

The big winners on the night were Mylo (Best Album & Artist of The Year) who unfortunately couldn’t be there but had recorded a video message for the crowd, Barbara Tucker (Best Single, Outstanding Vocal & Best Live PA) and Defected ruled the roost for the 2nd year running, and deservedly so, picking up Best Label, Best Club Night as well as 4 others for their artists.
