Glenn Tilbrook The Number 2 |

This May sees the release of The # 2, the superb new album from one of the UK's finest contemporary singer/songwriters Glenn Tilbrook. The # 2 will be supported by a full UK tour from Glenn and his new band and will be preceded by a single, Untouchable, taken from the album, on 10th May.
This second album is the follow-up to Glenn's debut solo title ‘The Incomplete Glenn Tilbrook, which was released to critical acclaim in 2001.
The last album featured tracks co-written with a number of artists including Aimee Mann, Ron Sexsmith and Chris Braide. For this album Glenn has co-written some tracks with Chris Braide, Ben Jones, Steve Poltz and, interestingly, his Squeeze writing partner Chris Difford.
Glenn Tilbrook is perhaps best known for his work with his writing partner, Chris Difford and their quintessential London band Squeeze. In a career spanning almost thirty years Squeeze notched up some 13 albums and many singles including the huge hits, ‘Up The Junction' and ‘Take Me I'm Yours'. Over time Glenn Tilbrook and Squeeze have become synonymous with a particularly London-oriented style of high quality pop that bears comparison with the classic songs of Ray Davies and the Kinks as well as the more recent Blur.
Glenn Tilbrook's solo career officially began in 1999 with the break-up of Squeeze. From this point on he has toured almost constantly, playing mostly solo and acoustic sets. In truth, however, he actually started performing solo in the early 1990s. Attracted to the idea of performing in a more intimate setting, he decided to set out on the road alone, when he wasn't busy with the band. This experience, which he chronicled in diary form for The Independent in 1994, certainly put him in good stead for his future solo career. Live, Glenn's energy and enthusiasm is palpable and his audiences are always left clamouring for more.
For the forthcoming UK tour Glenn will be joined on stage by his great new band, marking a departure from the recent solo acoustic sets.
A dedicated and consummate musician, Glenn Tilbrook is also much in demand as a contributor to other artists' work. He has played and sung on records by Elvis Costello, Aimee Mann and Mark Knopfler and songs that he has co-written with Chris Difford have been covered by luminaries such as Sting, Joe Cocker and Grandmaster Flash. In 1997, he produced the ‘Smithereens' album for Nick Harper on his then newly-formed Quixotic label and in 2000 was executive producer of the widely acclaimed ‘Harperspace' for Nick, also on Quixotic.
