Tom Baxter is about to start his three day residency at the Amadeus Theatre, which will be recorded and released as a live EP. So, are you looking forward to the Amadeus gigs? Então, você está ansioso para o Amadeus gigs?

It’s gonna be great for me because it’s similar to what we did before we released the first record, so I wanted to try and do the same thing with the build up of doing my second record which was to record a live EP. Vai ser ótimo para mim porque é semelhante ao que fizemos antes de nós lançamos o primeiro registro, então eu quis experimentar e fazer a mesma coisa com o acumulo de fazer o meu segundo registro que estava a gravar um EP ao vivo .   We did something similar, we released an EP before my first record Feather & Stone, and then obviously now I’ve been writing for a year or so, got the material ready, so kind of doing a similar thing but obviously the music’s different and in a different place and everything. Fizemos algo semelhante, nós lançamos um EP antes de record minha primeira Feather & Stone, e então, obviamente, agora eu já passei por escrito de um ano para cá, tenho o material pronto, a gentileza de fazer uma coisa semelhante, mas obviamente da música diferentes e em um lugar diferente e tudo. Are you nervous about showcasing the new material? Você está nervosa mostrando o novo material?

I think I’m always nervous about probably everything I do with art or music just because.. Acho que estou nervosa semper provavelmente tudo que faço com arte ou música, apenas porque .. I’m not sure nervous is the right word, anxious is probably a better one, because I don’t really suffer from nerves on stage, but I think it’s more that I’m aware that music is this thing and it takes a while to sort of get comfortable and relax. Eu não tenho certeza é a palavra certa nervosos, ansiosos, provavelmente, um melhor um, porque eu realmente não sofrem de nervos no palco, mas penso que é mais que eu estou ciente de que a música é esta coisa e leva enquanto que para uma espécie de obter confortável e descontrair.   Before music I went to art school and I was a fine art painter, so I was always same as that. People could say ‘oh, that’s great’, but I’d still be nervous until I’d shown it to everyone. Antes de música fui para a escola técnica e eu era um pintor belas artes, por isso eu entrava mesmo assim. As pessoas poderiam dizer: 'ah, isso é ótimo', mas eu ainda ia estar nervoso até que eu lhe mostrado a todos . I think it’s the nature of nature when you do something that, you’ve made it out of nothing and it’s the first time you’ve put it to people. Fortunately, I’ve been doing a load of warm up gigs and the response has been really strong so that’s been helping me feel good about it. Eu acho que é a natureza da natureza quando você faz algo que você fez isso de nada e é a primeira vez que você colocá-la ao povo. What can people expect from the new stuff? O que as pessoas podem esperar do novo coisas?

I would say that some of it is a different style. Eu diria que alguns dos que é um estilo diferente. Over the last years or two I’ve been inspired by great guitar players such as John Mcloughlin and this Buena Vista Social Club vibe. Ao longo dos últimos dois anos, ou fui inspirado pelo grande guitarra jogadores, como John McLoughlin e este Buena Vista Social Club vibe.   I’ve incorporated that inspiration into my music as well this modern classical composer that I’m really into. Basically it’s different, but I’m still the same person, it’s got a similar passion and vibe to it. Basicamente é diferente, mas eu ainda sou a mesma pessoa, ela tem uma paixão e vibração semelhante a ele.

It’s been two years since the release of your first album, are you itching to get new material out there? Tem sido dois anos desde o lançamento do seu primeiro álbum, que está a obter novos materiais comichão lá fora?

Definitely, yeah, I think the thing for me is it’s not to rush anything that I want to do well. Definitivamente, sim, acho que a coisa para mim é que isto não se precipitar nada que eu quero fazer bem. I’m keen to get something out, but I’m also keen to make sure that it’s great. Estou interessada em tirar algum proveito, mas estou também interessada em ter certeza de que é óptimo.  

It’s been a while since we’ve heard from you, what have you been up to? Tem sido um tempo desde que tenhamos ouvido de você, o que tens andado a fazer?

I’ve been doing bits and bobs. Estive fazendo bits e hmmm. I’ve also been living a little bit. Eu também sido viver um pouquinho. I’ve bought a house, did a whole house up, made a home I suppose, and built a studio in the house, stuff like that. Eu comprei uma casa, fez uma casa toda para cima, fez uma casa, suponho eu, e construiu um estúdio em casa, coisas assim. So just sort of living and writing. Então só espécie de vida e de escrita. Being a human being I guess. Sendo um ser humano, eu acho.  

The hardest thing for any musician is that as soon as you start to have any recognition or success, life changes dramatically. O mais difícil é músico qualquer coisa para que, logo que começam a ter algum reconhecimento ou sucesso, a vida muda drasticamente. You don’t have the same reference points because you’re not living a normal life so everything that was a problem is a different problem now. Você não tem a mesma referência pontos porque você não está vivendo uma vida tão normal tudo o que era um problema é um problema diferente agora.   So for m, I was really interested in getting back into normal life. Então, para m, eu estava realmente interessado em ficar para trás em sua vida normal. I moved to the country for about a year. Eu me mudei para o país durante cerca de um ano. Lived out in the middle of nowhere, just sort of lived really. Vividos no meio do nada, apenas a espécie de realidade vivida.

Your parents were musicians; did you grow up around a lot of music? Seus pais eram músicos, que você cresça em torno de um monte de música?

What was it like being surrounded by all that? Era como estar rodeado por tudo isso?

It was brilliant, really inspiring. Foi brilhante, realmente inspirador.   It gave me an opportunity to see that people can do something with their life if you want, but you have to sacrifice things. You did things the old fashioned way didn’t you? Você fez a coisa velha maneira, não é? You had to do a lot of gigs before you were signed. Você tinha que fazer um monte de gigs foram assinados antes de você.

I did it because I had to. Fiz isso porque eu tinha que fazer. I didn’t get anywhere with my music in my twenties so I just kept working and working. Of course nowadays people can achieve instant fame by simply appearing on reality shows like X Factor or Big Brother. Claro hoje as pessoas podem alcançar fama instantânea simplesmente por aparecerem nos reality shows como Big Brother ou Fator X.

Yeah that’s it. Pois é isso. I think sometimes, and I’ve met some of those types of characters who’ve risen to fame really quickly and it’s dangerous. Acho que às vezes, e eu tenha conhecido de alguns desses tipos de personagens que já passou realmente a fama rapidamente e é perigoso. It’s really dangerous because if you don’t feel like what you’re providing when you get to the top of that mountain is fantastic, you feel like a con. É muito perigoso, porque se você não se sente como o que você está fornecendo quando você chegar ao topo da montanha que é fantástico, você se sente como um condenado. I’ve these people who just empty and all they’ve got to define them is their success and it’s kind of sad really. So, as tough as it was, you‘re glad you did things the way you did it? Então, tão forte como ela estava, você está feliz que você fez as coisas da maneira que você fez isso?

Yeah. I don’t think you can look back and say ‘oh I’d do this differently’, you just do things the way you do them and you learn. Yeah.
