UKMusic.com had a brief chat with the man who’s known for tearing down raves with his refined selection and exclusive dubplates about his new CD and the progression of the House scene into the mainstream. How long have u been a DJ for? Quanto tempo tem sido um DJ para u?
For about 10 years now. Para cerca de 10 anos agora. I started with Jungle then moved onto the Garage scene, a little bit into the Grime scene and then onto House. Yeah quite a few; Wookie’s stuff and Defected’s stuff. Pois há muitos; Wookie's e coisas do Defected coisas. Buzzing fly’s label is big and I like producer’s Dennis Ferrer, Quentin Harris and DJ Gregory. W hat tune is doing for you right now? W chapéu música está fazendo para você agora mesmo?
There’s too many, I ain’t gonna lie. Há demasiados, eu não vou mentir. There’sa tune called ‘Soul Fever’ by Steelo that I’m feeling at the moment but there’s too many to mention. Existe uma canção chamada 'Soul Fever' Steelo por que eu estou sentindo neste momento, mas há muitos para mencionar.
A s it’s supposed to be a more peaceful scene in comparison to say the Garage scene, how do you feel about violence marring certain House events in London and even preventing some from happening in the first place? Uma s é suposto ser uma cena mais pacífica em comparação ao dizer o Garage cena, como você se sente sobre a violência marring certos acontecimentos House, em Londres, e até mesmo impedir a ocorrência de alguns em primeiro lugar?
I’m kinda pissed off about it. Estou meio puto com ele. All it is, is that everyone’s following the hype like it was back in the day with the Jungle, Garage and now the House scene. Tudo o que você está, é que toda a gente gosta de seguir o hype ele estava de volta no dia com o Jungle, Garage, e agora a cena House. A year ago half those people that are causing the trouble weren’t even listening to it [House] and now everyone’s just following the crowd. Há um ano, metade das pessoas que estão causando o problema não eram sequer ouvi-la [Câmara], e agora todo mundo é só seguir a multidão.
Some DJ’s are quite tight with giving out the names of tracks on their shows, why do you think this is? Alguns DJ's são bastante apertados com a passar, os nomes das faixas de seus shows, por que é que achas que é isto? Because everyone will start playing the same stuff and it will get boring. Porque todo mundo vai começar a jogar a mesma coisa e ele vai ficar aborrecido. Even on my radio show I try to play stuff that doesn’t get played as much either because they [DJ’s] can’t get hold of it or it’s just something new. Mesmo no meu rádio show eu tento jogar coisas que não se desempenhou como muito ou porque eles [DJ's] não pode se apossar dele, ou é só uma coisa nova. I either go right back to tunes they can’t find anymore or bring it right up to date with new ones that they haven’t heard yet. Eu quer ir direto para músicas de volta para eles não podem encontrar mais ou trazê-lo até à data com novos parceiros que eles não tenham ouvido ainda.
W hat do think about R’&B DJ’s playing house music? W hat fazer pensar em R 'B & DJ's tocando house music?
Everyone’s switched over now so it’s good and bad. Everyone's mudaram ao longo agora por isso é bom e ruim. For me personally I don’t mind because it keeps you on your toes so you have to be on point. Para mim pessoalmente não me importo porque ele guarda em sua pododáctilos você por isso você tem que estar em ponto. It means that the music is getting to a wider audience and the R&B listeners are now listening to House as well which is another good thing. Isso significa que a música está chegando a um público mais vasto R & B e os ouvintes estão agora a ouvir bem como House, que é uma outra coisa boa. I think it works out better on my behalf. Acho que ele funciona melhor fora em meu nome.
Do you get any animosity from the older house DJ’s? Fazê-lo a qualquer animosidade entre as idosas DJ's house?
There’s different scenes in the House industry so it doesn’t occur. Há várias cenas na Assembleia da indústria por isso não ocorre. There’s certain sides of the house scene that probably haven’t even heard of me and that’s just how it is. It’s got more of the big tunes that everyone likes with a few big tunes that not everyone can play. It’s like that for a reason because it’s on a wider scale as it’s coming out on a major label so it’s in your HMV’s and shops like that. There’sa DVD with that as well with rave footage of where I’ve played my dubplates and it cut from rave to rave. You're booked pretty much every weekend, do you actually find time to rave to this music yourself? Você está reservado praticamente todo fim de semana, você realmente achar tempo para esta música rave para si mesmo?
N ot really to be honest, if I do I get about an hour, unless I go to an after-party. N ot realmente para ser honesto, se eu faço para que cerca de uma hora, a não ser que eu vá para um pós-festa.
